Mohammad Amir Denies IPL Rumors Following British Citizenship Speculation
The 34-year-old former Pakistan pacer clarifies that reports linking him to the upcoming IPL auction are false

Executive Briefing
Speculation mounted that Mohammad Amir would register for the IPL auction after obtaining a British passport and entering the Afghanistan Premier League draft as a UK citizen. However, Amir dismissed the reports as untrue, confirming he has no plans to join the league.
Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has dismissed recurring rumors suggesting his entry into the Indian Premier League (IPL). Addressing recent reports in a post on X, Amir clarified that claims regarding his participation in the league are false. He also informed cricket outlet Cricbuzz that he will not register for the upcoming player auction.
The speculation picked up traction after Amir, who received his British passport in May, registered as a UK citizen in the Platinum category for the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) draft in Dubai. Given his newly acquired citizenship, reports emerged suggesting he could follow a similar path into the IPL 2027 mini-auction scheduled for December 16 in Goa.
Pakistani players have been barred from the IPL since its inaugural 2008 edition due to political tensions. The only notable exception was former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, who played for Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders between 2012 and 2015 while holding British citizenship.
While Amir had mentioned in a television interview last year that obtaining a UK passport would technically make him eligible for the IPL, he has now ruled out any immediate move to join the tournament. The 34-year-old left-arm seamer, who represented Pakistan in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is, continues to feature actively across other global T20 leagues.
