Investigators expose shadow trade-based invoicing network operating through shell corporations across four continents.
Executive Briefing
Financial intelligence units from six nations have dismantled a sophisticated billion-dollar trade-based money laundering network following a two-year covert probe.
DUBAI — In one of the most substantial white-collar enforcement operations of the decade, the International Financial Action Taskforce and regional financial intelligence directors announced the seizure of 1.2 billion dollars in illicit assets on Sunday evening.
The criminal syndicate utilized fictitious precious metals invoices and falsified container manifests to scrub proceeds from narcotics cartels and corporate embezzlement rings, funneled through hundreds of nested shell companies.
"Trade-based money laundering undermines legitimate mercantile commerce and robs public coffers of critical infrastructure revenues," remarked Special Director Tariq Al-Mansoor at the joint enforcement briefing.
Coordinated arrest warrants resulted in thirty-four high-level suspects taken into custody across Dubai, London, Zurich, and Singapore, alongside the freeze of prime commercial real estate and luxury marine vessels.
